A little more on Sanchez
I wrote about the torture memo signed by Lt. General Sanchez a while back. Since then I've brought it up in discussions a few times (fruitlessly). Now Think Progress has a good summary of what's wrong with Sanchez, which is primarily of interest because he's being considered for a promotion.

And look what his memo has wrought: we now have to admit that we've tortured people at Guantanamo, in Iraq, and in Afghanistan.
You make it sound like a bad thing. A parent gains no respect and makes no changes by shirking responsibility and talking in circles. The shit is going to have to hit the fan before the problem can be resolved. If that means admitting human rights violations, coming clean, and making changes then the country will end up being all the stronger for it. You don't see Japan's position on WWII holocaust practices in China (among other behavior in Asia) getting them any brownie points with neighbors.
